Good morning.

First principles: mine is a research-based, investigative and diaristic archival practice. The process of which involves stalking some answer across a concatenation of citations, attributions and allusions as — to borrow from a contributor to a recent conference — “a dog follows a scent through a field".

To illustrate: I began semester one attempting to metabolise marginalia, or the practice of readers writing back into books, the appropriative principle of which I extrapolated to Dante's rendering of his Suicides as twisted man-trees, forever rooted to the sunless soil of the Inferno. The stark image of annotation as appropriation as hybridity is a provocative one, and one whose sustained pursuit led me from Ovid to the Chapman Brothers, from William Blake to the Futurists.
